API Round Table to Host API Heritage Month on May 22
Posted 5/12/22

The Alameda Unified School District will celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month on Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Niel Tam Educational Center, 2060 Challenger Dr., Alameda, CA 94501.

The location of the celebration is fitting as contributions of Asian Pacific Islanders are recognized this year, a special highlight will be the honoring of the life and legacy of Niel Tam.  Tam passed away in 2015 after serving AUSD for over 40 years as a special education teacher, administrator, and school board trustee. He will be celebrated as an API role model who championed inclusion and equity for all children in the school district.

Families are welcomed to attend as the event will feature table activities for children and special presentations by students representing API groups in the district.

The event is organized by the Asian Pacific Islander Round Table of the AUSD, which serves as a vehicle for family and student input to the district on concerns of the API community.  Co-Chairs, Cynthia Park and Kristen Wong will also share the goals and priorities of the group and encourage community participation for ongoing activities.  The event will include light refreshments and is free to the public.
