COVID-19 Vaccinations for 5 to 11 Year Olds
Posted 11/5/21

As of this week, both the FDA and the CDC have authorized emergency use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. We know this is big and exciting news for many of our families and also that you have questions. Here is the information we have so far.

Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe for children ages 5-11?

Studies have shown that yes, the vaccine is safe for children in this age group. For more information, please visit:

Where can I get my child vaccinated?

Currently the Alameda County Public Health Department is urging families to contact their own healthcare providers and local pharmacies to make appointments for this age group. You can find lists of health care facilities providing vaccinations at:

Will AUSD provide vaccine clinics?

Yes, just as we have provided vaccination clinics for children ages 12-17 and their families, we will provide clinics for children ages 5-11. The county is currently prioritizing setting up vaccination clinics in areas that have low vaccination rates and high case rates. Alameda is not one of those areas. As such, we do not yet know when our clinics will take place. We are in regular touch with both our county and pharmacy partners to set these up as soon as vaccines are available, however, and hope to have more information soon.
