August 20 COVID-19 Update: Superintendent's Community Briefing
Posted 8/20/21

In his video community update today, Superintendent Scuderi talks about our first week of being back in school. His update includes:
The number of positive cases we have identified in schools this week:

  • 1 student positive at Maya Lin
  • 1 student positive at Paden
  • 1 staff positive at Otis (no contact made with students)
  • 1 student positive at Lincoln
  • 1 student positive at Wood

We have tested closed contacts for each of these cases and, so far,  no subsequent or related positives have been identified.

Our new protocols for testing, including

  • Screening testing once a month at each of our elementary sites
  • Screening testing one week per month at each of our secondary sites
  • Response testing (when there's a positive case)

Vaccination updates, including:

  • A new state health order that now mandates vaccinations or weekly testing for staff.
    • AUSD’s current data indicates 70% of students ages 12-17 have been vaccinated.
    • That's greater than the county average for that age group (61.5%)
    • It's also greater than the state average for that age group (44.3%)
  • A reminder of tomorrow's vaccination clinic at 10 am at Wood Middle School
  • Our protocols for meal service, including:
    • Having students eat outside as often as possible; and
    • Developing contingency plans for days that are rainy and smoky
