Diploma Options

Standard High School Diploma

Alameda Unified School District issues diplomas of graduation from high school to students who complete the following general requirements:

  • Accumulation of a minimum of 220 credits (approved by the BOE on February 9, 2021) in the prescribed content areas
  • Attain a cumulative grade point average of 1.75 or above
  • Complete twenty (20) hours of community service work during the 9th-12th grades

A detailed description of AUSD's graduation requirements and University of California 'a-g' requirements can be found HERE.  These requirements apply to students attending Alameda High School, Encinal Junior/Senior High School, Island High School, Alameda Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), and Independent Study.


Adult School High School Diploma

Adult School High School diplomas are granted to students who attend the Alameda Adult School and complete either Plan I or Plan II requirements.  

  • Plan I:     180 units in the prescribed content areas
  • Plan II:     40 units in the prescribed content areas AND passing score on the General Educational Development (GED)

Certificate of Completion

Any Special Education student who completes a course of study as prescribed in the Individual Education Plan (but whose IEP team determines they are unable to meet AUSD graduation requirements because of disability) will receive an AUSD Certificate of Completion.
