Instructions for the Self-Administered Test

Thank you for testing your students before sending them back to school. The test takes less than a minute to complete and 15 minutes to process, and we would like you to test your student on Sunday, November 28.

How to take the self test:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Open the test kit box or bag.
  3. Remove the test card from the white pouch.
  4. Lay it flat on the table.
  5. Open the small white vial.
  6. Put 6 drops of the fluid into the top hole in the card.
  7. Open the long white package.
  8. Pull out the swab.
  9. Insert the soft tip of the swab into your nostril - about 1/2 inch.
  10. Swab the inside of the nostril in big round circles, touching all the inside walls.
  11. Swab each nostril for 15 seconds.
  12. Insert the swab tip into the bottom hole.
  13. Push the swab until it’s visible in the top hole.
  14. Turn the swap to the right three times.
  15. Peel the adhesive liner off the card and close the card (like a book)
  16. Leave the swab in the card for 15 minutes - keeping the swab card flat.

How to read the self test:

  1. If only one pink/purple line appears, the test is negative.
  2. If two pink/purple lines appear, the test is positive. Please note: the second line may be very faint, but if it appears at all, the test is positive.
  3. Please do not send your child to school if the test is positive. Instead, call the attendance clerk as soon as possible and you will receive further instructions.
  4. You do not need to call the school if your student tests negative - only if your student tests positive.

How to dispose of your test:

  • You can throw all of your used test materials in the trash as soon as you are finished with the test.
