Lum Elementary School Soils Issue
Structural engineers have determined that Lum Elementary School may not be safe for long-term use because the soil on the campus would be subject to significant liquefaction during a strong earthquake. You can find more information on this web page. The public is also invited to a special Board of Education meeting on April 28 at 6:30 pm at Wood Middle School where this issue will be discussed.
Ruby Bridges STEAM Showcase and ASTI Climate Change Film Festival
Two AUSD schools are holding special events on April 28. Ruby Bridges Elementary School will have a STEAM Showcase and Silent Auction in the MPR starting at 6:15 pm. And ASTI will be hosting a festival of student films focused on climate change. That festival will be held at Christ Episocpal Church (1700 Santa Clara Avenue) from 6-8 pm and will also include a raffle, auction, and food. Suggested donation: $10.
Emma Hood Pool Temporarily Closed
The pool at Alameda High School is temporarily closed due to damage to the steps. AUSD's Maintenance, Operation, and Facilities Department is arranging to have contractors on site shortly to develop a repair plan, but the pool will be closed throughout the weekend.
Special Education Strategic Planning Group
AUSD has convened a working group to create a three- to five-year Special Education Strategic Plan. You can find information on the plan, the team, and the meetings here.
April 25 Board of Education Meeting
At its April 25 meeting, the Board of Education heard presentations on: Haight Elementary School; AUSD's energy conservation progress; Measure I; and assumptions being used to create the 2017-18 district budget. The agenda is here. The next board meeting will be held on May 9.
