Board Vacancy Process - Fall, 2021

introduction

On September 7, 2021, Mia Bonta was sworn in as the new Assembly Member for District 18. Subsequently, she resigned from her position as Board President. In accordance with AUSD Board Bylaws, Vice President Jennifer Williams then became president of the Board.

According to board policy, when a board seat becomes open, the remaining board members can choose to fill that seat via appointment or special election. At its public meeting held on September 14, 2021, the Board of Education voted unanimously to fill Board Member Bonta’s seat via appointment.

Important Dates

Applications for the vacant seat were made available to the public on September 20 and were due back on October 1.  Seven community members applied. The Board interviewed the applicants at its public meeting on October 12 and unanimously voted to appoint Ardella Dailey, EdD to the vacant seat.  The Board will swear Dr. Dailey in at its October 26 public meeting.

Dr. Dailey will serve through November 2022, which is when the next regular Board of Education election is scheduled.
