Air Quality Alerts

Introduction

Since October 2017, the Bay Area has experienced a number of days with poor air quality due to fires in northern California.

 

AUSD follows the US Environmental Protection Agency's colored flag program for determining how to categorize and respond to air quality issues in our area. Once air quality hits the "red" or "unhealthy" zone, we generally ask schools to limit or avoid outside activity and keep doors and windows closed.    

 

To determine local  air quality, district staff monitor several websites, including:

 

When the air is particularly bad, district staff check these sites on the hour so as to be able to communicate accurate information to the sites.
