AUSD ...more

In February, 2018 the Board of Education directed AUSD staff to review budget priorities in light of the fact that, despite recent raises, AUSD employees are still among the lowest paid public school district employees in the county. In the late winter and early spring, AUSD held a series of community meetings to discuss ways of finding revenue to improve AUSD salaries. This page provides background on the process and all of the presentations from those conversations.

Community Meetings about AUSD's Budget

The Board of Education heard presentations on AUSD's budget on February 10, February 27, March 19, March 27, and April 10. Summaries of and links to the presentation are below.

At the February 13 Board of Education meeting, staff outlined the rationale and proposed process for analyzing the district's budget. That presentation is here.

At the February 27 Board of Education meeting, staff gave a presentation on how AUSD's budget compares to other districts in Alameda County. The presentation included data on AUSD's revenue, expenditures, enrollment, class sizes, and numbers of administrators, counselors, and other staff. The presentation is available here.

At the March 19 Special Board of Education meeting, staff presented data on AUSD class sizes and how that affects budget. The presentation also included information on the Measure A parcel tax. That presentation is here.

At the March 27 Board of Education meeting, staff presented more data on AUSD staffing and how that affects budget, as well as information on the results of a budget priorities survey that employees, families, and community members took, recent and proposed cuts to District Office, and the budgetary effects of full day kindergarten, among other issues. That presentation is here.

At the April 10 Board of Education meeting, staff presented data on full day kindergarten, Teachers on Special Assignment, innovative programs, and cuts that District Office has already made to its budget. The Board gave direction on which cuts staff should implement for the 2018-19 budget. That presentation is here.

Video for each of these meetings is attached to the agendas.
